Perhaps you've already noticed some highlights from our business trip to China on our social media. The entire team has returned home safely, and now we can share their adventure with you in more detail. We've divided the story into three parts so that you don't miss any important moments. We visited three key places – the Canadian Solar supplier, Jolywood, and the massive SNEC exhibition.
Arrival in Shanghai – immersing ourselves in local culture on the first day
Our journey began with our arrival in Shanghai. The city greeted us with its typical blend of historical landmarks and modern architecture. We split into two groups – ladies and gentlemen – to explore different parts of the city.
Historic Yu Garden amidst a modern city
The historic Yu Garden, located in the heart of Shanghai, is a true gem that offers visitors a glimpse into the past amidst a modern city. Established during the Ming Dynasty in 1559, it is considered one of the most beautiful classical Chinese gardens in the country. It was designed as a private retreat for high-ranking official Pan Yunduan and his family, providing them with a place to relax and meditate.
"Visiting Yu Garden was like stepping back in time. This historic garden, filled with ancient pavilions, ponds, and picturesque bridges, offered us a contrast to the modern skyscrapers surrounding it. Transitioning from the bustling streets of Shanghai to the peace and quiet of the garden was amazing. The garden is surrounded by traditional Chinese buildings that provide a wonderful view and an escape from the daily hustle and bustle."
The view from the 632-meter tall Shanghai Tower was breathtaking
The view from the 632-meter tall Shanghai Tower was absolutely breathtaking. After touring Yu Garden, we headed to Shanghai Tower, the second tallest building in the world. The view from the top of the entire city of Shanghai was stunning. We saw how the historical part of the city blends with the modern skyscrapers, giving Shanghai its unique character.
Entering the high-speed elevator that took us to the observation deck was an experience in itself. In just 55 seconds, we were at a height of 546 meters, from where we had a bird's-eye view of the whole city. Looking down at the Huangpu River and the surrounding skyscrapers was awe-inspiring. Especially in the evening, when the whole city lit up with thousands of lights, we felt like we were in the future.
It was fascinating to see how the ancient architecture blends with modern buildings, creating a captivating mosaic of history and modernity. Shanghai showed us its dual nature – traditional Chinese temples and gardens on one side and futuristic high-rise buildings on the other.
We crossed the Huangpu River
Next on the agenda was a cruise across the Huangpu River. This experience provided us with a completely new perspective on the city and allowed us to see the iconic Shanghai skyline from the water. During the cruise, we admired the modern skyscrapers and historical buildings that together create a unique mix of old and new. The sight of the illuminated skyscrapers and their reflections in the river was absolutely fascinating, reminding us of how dynamic and contrasting Shanghai is.
Walking through old Shanghai
After crossing the river, we found ourselves in the old town, which immediately transported us to another time. The narrow streets, traditional markets, and ancient buildings were like from another world. This contrast between the modern skyscrapers on the other side of the river and the historical buildings of the old town was truly fascinating. It was amazing to see how history and modernity meet in one place, creating a unique atmosphere.
The second day took us to Canadian Solar
The second day took us to Canadian Solar. As the saying goes, "first work, then play." Well, we had both at the same time. On the second day, we visited our supplier, Canadian Solar. The trip by high-speed train, reaching speeds of up to 270 km/h, was an experience in itself.
It was fantastic to see how theory turns into practice. We toured the production halls where we could watch the entire process of solar panel manufacturing from initial design to the final product.
Bylo parádní vidět, jak se teorie proměňuje v praxi. Prošli jsme si výrobní haly, kde jsme mohli na vlastní oči sledovat celý proces výroby solárních panelů, od počátečního návrhu až po finální produkt.

Touring the automated production lines
Visiting the Canadian Solar factory was fascinating. The production lines are 80-90% automated, with only about 20 people working on one line, yet the capacity of one line is 1000 panels per day. And they have six such lines. It was incredible to see how modern technology and automation can streamline production and increase capacity.
The first two days of our trip were full of impressions and new insights. Visiting Yu Garden, Shanghai Tower, and Canadian Solar gave us a deep insight into the culture, history, and technological innovations of Shanghai. So, are you excited for the second part?
