Case Study 3: Cold Storage Warehouse Near Skopje
KSTAR – Efficiency and Savings
A modern photovoltaic installation was launched near the Skopje airport to support the energy needs of a modern cold storage warehouse that stores a large volume of food products. In order to optimize the coverage of energy needs, a 737 kWp photovoltaic installation was implemented with KSTAR KAC50DP hybrid inverters, which provide a total output of 700 kW and operate in parallel in 14 units.
Each inverter manages a dedicated energy storage unit with a capacity of 100 kWh, resulting in a total storage capacity of 1.4 MWh. This design allows for maximum use of renewable energy and ensures energy stability of the refrigeration plant, even during peak demand periods when electricity prices are highest.
Optimizing energy consumption and preventing losses
The KSTAR energy storage system not only compensates for evening energy consumption, but also allows for the efficient management of surplus energy generated by photovoltaic modules. This prevents the sale of excess energy at disadvantageous prices, thereby increasing the overall profitability of the facility.
To further optimize the system's performance, an intelligent energy management system is being implemented that analyzes electricity prices on the market in real time. This system will allow for the storage of energy generated from sunlight, as well as the purchase of electricity during periods of low prices, which can later be used for internal consumption or resold at higher market values.
Tangible benefits of implementing KSTAR technology
The use of KSTAR hybrid inverters has enabled the cold storage facility to cover up to 50% of its energy needs exclusively through renewable energy sources. As the project manager responsible for the implementation emphasized, the deployment of the energy storage system not only supports sustainability goals, but also significantly reduces operating costs.
By intelligently managing energy that would otherwise be returned to the grid, this investment ensures a short payback period and long-term savings. This combination of environmental and economic benefits makes the KSTAR solution a key part of the modern energy transformation.
